I’m a dog obsessed interior designer in Worcester Pennsylvania. With Erin Olivier Designs, I enjoy work all over the country to provide connections to spaces for clients that both function and inspire. Ruby’s Stairs was born out of what I do for clients daily: I start with function then, as my sweet little girl says, I “make it pretty.”

A couple years ago I took a bad spill which lead to reconstructive surgery on my ankle. For months you could find me one of two places - on our porch or in bed. My black and chocolate labs, Ollie and Oscar, could jump up onto the sofa or bed to get to me, but my Ruby, the english bulldog, couldn’t, and I wasn’t able to lift my chunk in my condition. So, like many of you dog-obsessed parents, I bought stairs for Ruby. To my design discontent, they weren’t sturdy or remotely attractive. So I asked my husband Shaun (owner of Black Dog Home Improvements) to build me some furniture-grade stairs; I then sent them to my workroom for padding and a custom slip cover. VOILA! My Ruby and I were happy!
